If you want a special academic challenge in your undergraduate career, you can find it in the University Honors Program (UHP). The UHP gives outstanding students the opportunity to work with their peers and with outstanding faculty members in an enriched academic environment. Being a member of the UHP lets you combine some of the benefits of a small-college experience with the advantages only a major research university can offer.

Students may be admitted to the UHP in a number of different ways. National Merit Finalists, National Hispanic Finalists, National Achievement Finalists, and University of Alabama Presidential Scholars and Alumni Honors Scholars are automatically admissible to the program upon receipt of their applications.

Other students with ACT composite scores of at least 28 or SAT scores of at least 1240 are also automatically admitted upon receipt of their applications. Students not admitted as freshmen (including transfer students) may apply to the program after they have earned at least a 3.3 grade point average for a semester's work at The University of Alabama. All participants must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA and give evidence of actively pursuing the Honors Program requirements to remain members-in-good-standing of the program.

Students who wish to be admitted to UHP must first apply for regular admission to The University of Alabama. They must also apply for the University Honors Program. Students may be admitted either as incoming freshmen or after a semester's coursework at the University with at least a 3.3 GPA.
